Hit Frequency

Hit Frequency

Hit Frequency, also known as win probability or hit rate, is a statistical measure in slot machines and other casino games that indicates how often a spin or round will result in any winning combination. It is expressed as a percentage and doesn't specify the size of the win, only that a win occurred.

Hit Frequency vs. RTP

While RTP (Return to Player) tells you the theoretical percentage of wagered money a game will pay back to players over time, Hit Frequency (or hit rate) informs you how often a winning animation will appear. These two metrics are independent; a game can have a high hit frequency but a low RTP, and vice versa. Understanding this distinction is key to comprehending slot math.

Understanding Hit Frequency Statistics

  • High Hit Frequency (e.g., 30-40%): You win something roughly every 3 spins. These wins are often smaller than your bet (e.g., betting $1 to win $0.50).
  • Low Hit Frequency (e.g., 10-20%): You might spin 10 times without a win, but the wins tend to be more significant when they occur.

Note: A game can have a high Hit Frequency but a low RTP, and vice versa.
