Provably Fair

terminology

Provably Fair

Provably Fair is a technology, popularized by crypto casinos and blockchain gambling platforms, that allows players to independently verify the fairness and randomness of a game's outcome. It provides a transparent "receipt" of the game's result, ensuring the house cannot manipulate the game after a bet is placed.

The Mechanics

  • Server Seed: An encrypted, random string generated by the casino before the game round, hidden from the player.
  • Client Seed: A random string provided by the player's browser or chosen by the player themselves, which the casino cannot control.
  • Nonce: A number that increases with each game round played by the user, ensuring unique outcomes for subsequent bets.

The game's outcome is mathematically generated using a combination of the server seed, client seed, and nonce. After the round concludes, the server seed is revealed to the player. Players can then use the revealed server seed, their client seed, and the nonce to recalculate the outcome using the same algorithm, thereby proving that the original result was not manipulated by the casino.
