SiGMA Rome: Stability and Licensing Lead the Conversation

We have just returned from SiGMA Rome, where many of our conversations focused on the changes taking place across the iGaming industry.

Developments in Curaçao and the recent government measures stopping betting and online gaming operations in Brazil were among the topics discussed. A clear theme emerged from our meetings: international operators are looking for stable jurisdictions, reputable licenses, and corporate structures they can build on for years.

Choosing a licensing jurisdiction is a long-term business decision. It forms the foundation of the operation, so operators need to consider regulatory credibility, compliance requirements, costs, and practical suitability for their business.

At the GBO booth, Nevis gaming licensing (https://gbo-licensing.com/services/nevis-gaming-license/) and company formation attracted particularly strong interest. Its online gaming framework was introduced in 2025, with government-issued licenses overseen by the Nevis Online Gaming Authority. From our perspective as a corporate service provider, the government framework and emphasis on compliance are among its main attractions.

The application requires proper due diligence, including KYC and KYB documentation, a business plan, and evidence of source of funds and wealth. These requirements are an important part of how we assess a licensing jurisdiction.

Costs and timing were also frequent questions. The initial license fee is €28,000, while GBO’s complete setup is approximately €36,000, including company formation and local requirements, depending on the scope. The authority advertises a licensing timeframe of four to six weeks, subject to a complete application and regulatory approval.

For GBO, the main takeaway from SiGMA Rome was clear: operators are thinking carefully about the foundations of their businesses. Licensing discussions increasingly focus on finding a credible, practical structure that supports long-term operations.
